Virtual Tour School History

1929
The senior high school was built in 1929.  The building included a north gym that had temporary partitions installed to make six classrooms.  The boiler room was built large enough to provide for future major expansion. The 1929 plans showed eventual locations of future expansions.

1930

In 1930, extension of A-building and 60 percent of the present B-building were built.  These buildings include the present four floors.  The north gym opened as a gym without temporary partitions for classrooms. The 1930 site plans showed location of further expansion of the B-building and the development of an auditorium. Also shown on the site plan was the possible development of a football field, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts.  The football field was shown oriented east to west instead of the present north to south position.

1948
The present stadium was constructed with a grass field and a cinder track with concrete curbs on both sides.  The football field was lighted and the underside of far stands was open and not closed as we see it today.

1948/50
The stadium storage building was built. The underside of the far stands was closed-in with locker rooms constructed underneath.

1955
The remaining forty percent of B-Building was built.  In addition, the auditorium, the south gym and swimming pool were built.  A three tiered parking lot and baseball field were constructed. These additions doubled the size of the complex, raising the the square footage to 210,000 square feet.

1969
The construction began on the major expansion and renovation to the existing facility. The six story C-building was built.  The Fine Arts wing, the gold gym and wrestling rooms were also built.  In addition, a fitness room and a new girls locker room were built.  A and B buildings were renovated and Horsman and Stadium site roads were constructed.  The parking area was constructed into one large single level parking lot.  The athletic complex increased with the building of a practice football field, six tennis courts and the beginning of site work on the stadium which would be competed in 1972.

1974
The football stadium was renovated with new lighting, Astroturf field, Tartan Track and the beginning of a new athletic facilities building.  The athletic facilities building was to be completed in 1975.
1983
The football stadium Astroturf field was replaced.  The stadium Tartan Track was replaced with a padded-recoated track.
1984/85/86
A complete renovation of the high school was required to accommodate the relocation of the junior high schools to the sixth floor of the high school.  The junior high schools were moved to the high school in 1986.
1985
The football stadium's press box was replaced.  Concession stands were constructed in the football stadium.

1993

The football stadium Astroturf field was replaced.  The stadium track was recoated.

1998
