Documentation of Resources

Each time that you use someone else's words, idea or pictures in your research and writing you must give credit to that person or group.  You should do this by creatng a Work(s) Cited page.  In a paper, the Works Cited page appears as the final page of the document.  However, citations may appear on Power Point slides or under pictures or maps in a visual presentation.  At Mellon, we use MLA format to create citations.  Click on  the links below to access the Work Cited guide sheets that are used in the library.

You can also use our new bibliography creation software NoodleTools.  Click the icon to go to the NoodleTools page.  Please see Mrs. Tomer if you have any questions.

Example of Complete Works Cited Page

Works Cited Page Hints and Tips

þ     The words “Works Cited” should be centered at the top of the page.

þ     Citations must appear in alphabetical order by the first word of each entry (do not include the articles a, an, or the when alphabetizing).  Citations that begin with numbers should appear in numerical order before words .

þ     The works cited page is double spaced both within and between citations.

þ     Punctuation must be exact; there is no room for error.

þ     A works cited page should be the last page of your paper.

þ     Any pictures or graphs that appear in your paper must also be cited if they were retrieved from another source.

þ     Begin the first line of an entry at the left margin, and indent each additional line of the citation five spaces or one tab.  (hanging indentation)
