August 24, 2012
In 1992, the Mt. Lebanon girls’ high school soccer team won the PIAA championship--the first and only team to win the state championship for the girls’ soccer program. The team was also a WPIAL runner-up with a 23-3-1 record and was ranked 18th in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The team was led by head coach Tom Bluemling and coaches Ron Wilcher and Wayne Capra.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their state championship, the team is planning a reunion. They will be recognized during halftime of the Mt. Lebanon-Erie McDowell game on September 15 at 1:30 p.m. in the high school stadium. Read more about the team in today's Post-Gazette.
