New High School Classrooms Ready for First Day of School
August 25, 2013
|Dr. Steinhauer looks over a classroom ready to be unpacked from the move last spring.
The 6th floor of the high school B Building will be open and ready for classes on the first day of school, Sept. 3. Math and Social Studies classes will be held in the first completed renovated spaces of the high school project. Students will get their first look at the like-new renovated classrooms after a year and half of construction. The floors are gleaming, new lockers are ready, and new classroom technology is in place.
Other spaces set to open at various times this fall include the Fine Arts Theatre, areas in F Building off the South Parking lot that will house the attendance, health, guidance, unit principals, and technology offices, plus the new science wing, bridge, and athletic building.
The 5th floor in B Building is under construction, while classes continue to be held on the 3rd and 4th floors of B Building. Asbestos abatement was completed in these areas over the summer.
All classes and departments have spaces in the high school with some classes relocating to other areas. The big change for this year has the band and orchestra moving into rooms previously occupied by the Human Resources Department and the Guidance Office is in temporary space on the 4th floor.
The project is on target for completion in late spring, 2015.
