The Mt. Lebanon School District is proud to announce that Lincoln Elementary School was named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2013. This is Lincoln’s third National Blue Ribbon. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today recognized 286 schools as the 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools, based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in improving student academic achievement.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program award recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students either achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements toward those standards. Since 1982, the U. S. Department of Education has celebrated the success of 7,500 American schools. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in outstanding schools.
“I am very proud of Lincoln Elementary School for being selected a National Blue Ribbon School. The principal, faculty, students, and parents have made a commitment to excellence in education that is a Lincoln tradition,” said Superintendent Timothy Steinhauer. “This award is symbolic of the good work we do every day throughout the District and embodies our guiding philosophy of continuous improvement.”
Lincoln Elementary School will be honored at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 18-19 in Washington, D.C. “This award truly represents a team effort. Lincoln’s strength is the people, our faculty, staff, parents, and community who work together to provide the best education possible for all of our students,” stated Lincoln Principal Dr. Marybeth Irvin. “While we have a strong focus on academics, we also work together to support children in all areas of learning and growth. “
To select National Blue Ribbon Schools, the Department requested nominations from the top education official in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the Bureau of Indian Education. The Secretary of Education invites nominated schools to submit an application for possible recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School.
