A Class with the Maestro
December 2, 2013
Manfred Honeck, Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony, worked with high school musicians today.

Mr. Robert Vogel’s 8th period orchestra class welcomed a special visitor today. Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Manfred Honeck conducted a master class with the students as they played Leoš Janáček’s Suite for String Orchestra.

Maestro Honeck spoke to the students about his passion for music and how making music is a gift that you give others. He said that no matter how many times he conducts a piece of music he always discovers something new.  The students responded to Maestro Honeck’s direction and played beautifully.  He mentioned that Janáček’s Suite for String Orchestra was the most difficult piece the symphony played on their European tour last fall. It was an afternoon to remember for everyone involved.
