January 14, 2014
Governor Corbett applauds the principals for a job well done!

It was a great day for Mt. Lebanon! Dr. Timothy Steinhauer welcomed Governor Tom Corbett and Acting Secretary of Education Carolyn Dumaresq to the high school today to celebrate the nine Mt. Lebanon Schools that received the  Governor’s Award for Excellence in Academics for  attaining 90 or above on the 2012-13 School Performance Profile.  All nine schools were awarded a banner for their academic performance. Student representing their schools attended the ceremony along with School Board members, administrators, principals, department chairs, elementary facilitators, representatives from State Senator Matt  Smith and State Representative Dan Miller’s offices.

Based on the 2012-13 School Performance Profile, www.paschoolperformance.org, Mt. Lebanon High School attained a score of 99.5 percent, the highest score in the district and the highest among all 276 Allegheny County public schools.

Following the high school, Foster Elementary School had a score of 97.8 percent, Hoover Elementary School 97 percent, Howe Elementary School 95.5 percent, Lincoln Elementary School 94.7 percent, Jefferson Middle School 93.8 percent, Washington Elementary School 93.6 percent, Markham Elementary School 93.2 percent and Jefferson Elementary School 92 percent.

“A culture of excellence, a climate of success permeates our schools. Our consistent delivery of quality programs in the academics, arts, athletics and extracurricular activities makes the difference,” stated Dr. Timothy Steinhauer in his remarks today. “For us, failure is not an option. The stakes are much too high. Successful public education is the precursor to a successful community, state, and nation. The mission of the Mt. Lebanon School District remains the same - to provide the best education possible for each and every student. We work diligently every day, in every class, and in every building to accomplish this mission.”
