Actors and Writers Book Club Returns to the High School
February 9, 2014
Writer Kyle Bradstreet and actor Ato Essandoh from the BBC America show Copper met with students as part of the Actors and Writers Book Club.

The Writers Guild of America East Foundation’s Actors and Writers Book Club returned to Mt. Lebanon High School. The program brings an actor and writer into high schools to read and discuss works of literature, with the mission of getting students excited about reading, writing, story telling and the importance of language skills. Our students had the opportunity to hear actor Ato Essandoh and writer Kyle Bradstreet read excerpts of To Kill a Mockingbird and discuss the work with them. Mr. Bradstreet and Mr. Essandoh worked together on the BBC America production of “Copper,” a drama series set in 1865 New York City.

Kyle Bradstreet’s work has been produced in the US and Europe. He is the author of the plays From Prague, Honor Thy Mother, Alcohol, and The Café, as well as numerous one acts. As a screenwriter, in addition to writing on season one of Copper, Bradstreet has written for The Philanthropist (NBC), Manhunt (HBO miniseries) and Borgia: Faith & Fear (Canal+).

Ato Essandoh movie roles include Django Unchained, Get Him To The Greek, Nights In Rodanthe, Blood Diamond, Garden State, Prime, Hitch, and Saving Face. Essandoh is a member of the theater company Colt Coeur.

This was the second visit to the high school for the WGAE Foundation’s Actors and Writers Book Club. In 2010, actor William Baldwin, and writers Tom Kelly and Susanna Styron, read excerpts from John Steinbeck's East of Eden.
