Foster and Jefferson Students Winners in PSO Poetry Contest
March 2, 2014

Students from Jefferson and Foster elementary schools had the distinct honor of having their poems read during the March 1 Fiddlesticks concert featuring Camille Saint-Saens' The Carnival of the Animals. The students were among the winners in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra poetry contest where they were invited to write two poems--one about the animals in the piece and the other, about Fiddlesticks the cat, the PSO mascot. The studentsí poems were chosen from nearly 70 submissions and were read onstage by Larry Loh, PSO Resident Conductor; Fawzi Haimor, PSO Assistant Conductor; and Katy Williams, Guest vocalist.

Congratulations to the following students and their music teacher, Jill Campion:

Jefferson students:
Lucy Gulish- Aquarium poem
Madeline Zerega- Aviary poem
Sophia Williams- Swan poem
Ellie Leja- Fiddlesticks poem

Foster students:
Ellie Reinhart- Elephant poem
Brooke Murawski- Fossils poem
Emerson Driscoll- Fiddlesticks poem
