Visiting Author Brings the Art of Origami to Jefferson Elementary
March 10, 2014

Jefferson Elementary School recently welcomed visiting author, Christine Petrell Kallevig.  A former classroom teacher and music therapist, Ms. Petrell Kallevig has created a unique way to encourage young people to develop an interest in both language and art.

Petrell Kallevig travels to elementary schools around the United States teaching origami by telling stories that demonstrate how to fold simple origami models. She folds large scale versions of the models while telling the story and invites children in the audience to follow along with their own origami paper. The experience for students was memorable, all due to a literary introduction to the traditional Japanese art of paper folding.
