Mt. Lebanon Students Shine in PTA Reflections Contest
March 10, 2014

Eight Mt. Lebanon students placed at the state level for this year's Reflections competition.  Reflections is the national PTA's annual arts recognition program.  Students may submit an entry in one of six artistic areas based on a theme.  This year's theme was "Believe, Dream, Inspire."  Entries are judged at the school, town, region, state and national levels according to age divisions.

Two Mt. Lebanon students, 4th grader Anna Mares (Foster) and 6th grader Dana Carskadden (Mellon), placed first in the state for their entries.  Anna's photograph, "Go Anyplace, Anytime," and Dana's dance, "Fireworks," will represent Pennsylvania in intermediate photography and middle dance choreography, respectively, in the national competition.

In addition, six Mt. Lebanon students placed in the top five in their artistic categories and divisions.  Winners include:  Ellie Reinhart (Foster-5th place primary literature),  Grace Kearns (Markham-2nd place intermediate literature), Tori Pecarchik (Hoover-5th place intermediate dance), Olivia Salib (Markham-5th place intermediate musical composition), Hannah Ishizaki (Mellon-2nd place middle musical composition) and John Mark Duncan (JMS-5th place middle musical composition).   All of these state finalists will be recognized at a ceremony in Philadelphia this April.
