High School Senior Finalist for Caplan-Lieber Human Relations Award.

Senior Ellen Wilson is a finalist for the Caplan-Lieber Human Relations Award sponsored by the Pittsburgh Area Jewish Committee. She was nominated for her work toward creating a safe and accepting environment for LGBT students and staff in the high school. Ellen is a co-president of the high school's Gay Straight Alliance Club.
Ellen and her nominator, high school science teacher Ms. Pamela Harris, attended a recognition banquet held at the Rodef-Shalom Congregation in Pittsburgh. She is also being considered for a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by the Pittsburgh Area Jewish Committee, an organization dedicated to promoting tolerance, human rights, and diversity education.
About the Caplan-Lieber Human Relations Scholarship
Since 1956, the PAJC has been awarding the Caplan-Lieber Human Relations Scholarship to an outstanding high school junior or senior in Allegheny County who has worked to build bridges between diverse groups in his or her school or community. The winner is presented with a plaque and a one-thousand dollar scholarship.This special recognition of the youth of this community is named after Louis Caplan and Jerome B. Lieber, who were civic, communal and philanthropic leaders in the Pittsburgh area.
