Mt. Lebanon High School receives Classrooms for the Future Grant On September 20, 2006 the Pennsylvania Department of Education(PDE) released the names of 79 high schools across the state awarded the Classrooms for the Future Grant. Mt. Lebanon High School was among those listed and was awarded a grant of $407,573. Dr. Zeb Jansante, High School principal, Dr. George Wilson, Superintendent of Schools and Christopher Stengel, Director of Technology were invited to attend the ceremony at Wilkinsburg High School where Governor Edward Rendell made the announcement.
According to the PDE, this initiative will provide high school teachers and students with enhanced technology, laptop computers and other state-of-the art resources for English, math, science and social studies classrooms. In addition, $6 million in state and federal funds have been committed to provide teachers and school leaders training on how best to use technology to increase student achievement. The PDE also stated in a press release that the Classrooms for the Future grant will provide $200 million over the next three years for all high schools in Pennsylvania. Specific details about the grant such as disbursement timelines have yet to be released by the PDE.
Dr. Zeb Jansante was among a small group of high school administrators invited to Harrisburg last spring by Michael Golden, Deputy Education Secretary for Information and Educational Technology to first learn about the grant. In June he assembled the grant team of Brendan Hyland, Mike Hogel, Greg Wensell, Steve Bullick, Kate Keane, Chris Stengel, Pam Pulkowski, Aileen Owens, Jon Ptachcinski, Nick Salvo, Pete Bouvy, and Marlynn McConnell to craft the submission. |
