 Standing Rules Revised

We have recently revised our standing rules. Please read them here. We will be voting on the September 3 Council meeting.

New State High School Graduation Requirements!

Public comments on proposed revisions to the state’s high school graduation requirements will be accepted by the State Board of Education through June 16, 2008.  Proposed revisions to Chapter 4 (regulations governing Academic Standards and Assessments) were published in the May 17 edition of the Pennsylvania Bulletin, which initiated the beginning of a formal 30-day public comment period on the plan to establish end-of-course exams as an additional means of assessing whether students are proficient in the state’s academic standards.

Instructions on submitting comments, as well as a copy of the proposed changes, are available at www.pabulletin.com/secure/data/vol38/38-20/925.html.

Public Comments and Contact Person

Interested persons are invited to submit written comments, suggestions or objections regarding this proposed rulemaking to Jim Buckheit, Executive Director, State Board of Education, 333 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA 17126-0333, jbuckheit@state.pa.us. Comments must be submitted within 30 days following publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.

Persons with disabilities needing an alternative means of providing public comment may make arrangements by calling Jim Buckheit at (717) 787-3787 or TDD (717) 787-7367.

Technology Information

Operation Safe Surf, presented by Tom Corbett, PA Attorney General’s department and staff, has 5 tips for Online Safety for our children:

  1. Never give out personal information to someone you meet online – like your real name, address, telephone number or school.
  2. Never agree to get together with someone you meet on the internet.
  3. Tell a parent, teacher or trusted adult if you see anything online that makes you feel uncomfortable.
  4. Do not send “flames”—cyber bullying is very hurtful.
  5. Do not post any photos of yourself, friends or family.

Together, we can keep our children safe online!  To learn more, visit the kids’ area on www.attorneygeneral.gov.
Operation Safe Surf was presented to our middle school students last year.

PTA Start the Art Week is October 8 – 12, 2007

You can begin the week by taking the family to experience “Art in the Park,” Mt. Lebanon’s very own art show, October 6-7.  The main park plays host to a wide variety of artists. Then make your way over to the main stadium where the band will be hosting an exceptional band festival on the evening of October 6th.And wonderful music will be made in the high school auditorium with Music for Mt. Lebanon.

We are fortunate to have so many wonderful opportunities to experience the arts right here in Mt. Lebanon.  And that appreciation extends into our schools.  PTA is proud to sponsor the Arts in Education, (Reflections) program district-wide, as well as scheduling performances at our schools through our Cultural Arts chairs.

The arts are alive and well in Mt. Lebanon!
