SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear MTL Parents:

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2007-2008 school year. It is my honor to serve as Superintendent of the Mt. Lebanon School District.

By providing students with a caring and rigorous school environment, MTLSD is committed to promoting strategies and practices that support all members of the educational community. We are proud of our accomplishments and are dedicated toward a continuous path of improvement.

The District welcomes and embraces the involvement of parents and other significant stakeholders. When parents join educators and the community as equal partners, we achieve our common goal of ensuring success for all children.

Parents can and should play an important role in maintaining the child’s interest in school subjects and class work.  Participation and involvement by the parent can provide a positive and substantial influence in development of the child’s attitude toward school.  Increasingly, this influence is important as many children are distracted from schoolwork and lose interest in succeeding at academic pursuits.

Parents can do many things at home to help their children maintain interest in and do well in schoolwork.  Parents can engage themselves directly in their children’s education; to read to them, to encourage children to read on their own, to meet with school officials and teachers, to ensure that homework gets done, to furnish necessary supplies and materials, and above all, to convey and exemplify the importance and value of a good education.

With this in mind, there are numerous opportunities to become involved in your child’s education, including the PTAs at our elementary and secondary schools. Your support and involvement can make a positive impact in the lives of our students and the future success of MTLSD.

Thank you for caring about our school district and for your support as we prepare our students for the exciting future that awaits them.

Respectfully,

John Allison

Superintendent of Schools
