Bug at Recess
The first graders found an interesting bug at recess.  Watch the video to see how we figured out what it was:

Happy First Day of School!

Good-bye Fifth Grade
As a tribute to our graduating fifth graders (who are very near and dear to Miss Belardi's heart), here is a collection of photos of our 6 years together at Foster.  I'm so proud of all of you, but will hopefully see you at MBU! :)

Lebo Legs 2008

Team Lebo Legs gathers in Schenley Park after completing the 3.1 miles for the Race for the Cure.  Students worked to raise funds and trained every Friday and Sunday with their families and coaches to prepare for the race.  The team of over 200 raised over $4,000 thanks to donations, lemonade stands and corporate sponsors.  Thanks to Coaches Rendulic, Lucke and Saxton and the rest of the parents who made this such a successful event.  Watch the following video to see a recap of the past few months.  Way to go team Lebo Legs!

David Catrow Visits Foster

On April 10th, author and illustrator, David Catrow, shared his artistic talent with the Foster students.  He showed his drawings from the movie Horton Hears a Who, sketched many pictures and even illustrated the silly songs written by the fourth and fifth graders.  The songs, "The Stinkin' Barber Shop" (to the tune of Turkey in the Straw) and "No More Homework" (to the tune of Frere Jaques) were the big winners.  All the songs are on display in the library.

Read Across America

Students celebrated Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 3rd.  Kindergarten students dressed as their favorite storybook character.  Click here to listen to them discuss their costumes!

Thanks to the Foster PTA, Attack Theater performed for students in March.

Valentine's Day

Homerooms celebrated Valentine's Day with games, dance parties, cookies, stories, and Valentines, of course!

Foster Science Fair

Click here to see the slide show of the Health and Science Fair in February.

The Mitten Tree

After reading "The Mitten Tree," first grade students collected pairs of mittens to donate to The Salvation Army for the holidays.
National Inclusive Schools Week

Along with Mt. Lebanon School District and others throughout our country, the Foster Community celebrated National Inclusive Schools Week the week of December 3-7. National Inclusive Schools Week highlights and celebrates the progress of our nation's schools in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population. As an inclusive school, we strive to ensure that each student feels welcome and is learning; we embrace the understanding that every student is unique, and therefore, learns differently. Our students and staff participated in a variety of activities during the week to celebrate.
Veteran's Day

Foster celebrated Veteran's Day with a ceremony honoring local veterans.  The third graders recited the Preamble to the Constitution, the fifth grade gave the history of Veteran's Day and a former Foster student played Taps on the trumpet.  Thanks to everyone who made it such a success.
Open House

Foster families traveled by foot, car, and wagon to attend Open House in October.  Students enjoyed giving tours and showing off their work.  These students used the green screen to pretend they were in a movie about spiders and other arachnids where the spiders looked like they were crawling on the boys' heads!

Safety Week

Officer Mike and PC visited Foster to discuss safe walking tips during October.

School's Open!

Parents and students lined up around the block for the first day of school with new clothes, sharp pencils, and lots of smiles!  Mr. McClintock-Comeaux greeted families as they entered the building and made sure the 2007-2008 school year was off to a great start!
