District Chorus
An auditioned group of 5th graders are preparing a great variety of music
which they will perform with like students from
each of the seven elementary schools in Mt. Lebanon Schools!
Washington 5th grade students will begin District Chorus rehearsals at Lincoln, beginning Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 8:00am. They will travel by bus back to Washington at 8:45am.
All rehearsals take place on Tuesdays. Schedules will be sent home December 23, 2005.
Concert: May 2, 2006 Mellon Auditorium at 7:30 pm. Students will need to report at 7:00 pm.
Concert attire: White tops, Dark skirts/pants

1st grade
First grade students are perfecting their skills identifying and reading rhythms.
Ask your child to clap the following rhythms for you:
jingle jingle jingle bells
bells REST jingle bells
Then give them a piece of paper & pencil to write the rhythm for you.
2nd grade
Mrs. Patterson doesn't teach any 2nd graders this year.
3rd grade
Third grade students learn phrase form (or 'form') of music. "The Eight Days of Hanukkah" is a verse-refrain song, which can be labeled A B A B,etc. "Deck the Halls" has three verses but no refrain. The form turns out to be A B A.

4th grade
Fourth grade students learn that when two different songs are performed simultaneously harmony is created. A partner song is a lesser known song or melody that is performed alongside a more well-known song.
Ask your child about his/her performance of two such songs, "In the Window" and "Winter Fantasy."

5th grade
Fifth grade students just finished a terrific concert last Friday, December 16, held at Mellon Auditorium.
Spring concert information coming soon.
Special Event: Thursday, June 15, 2006 - The Washington 5th Grade Building Chorus will be performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at PNC Park - Pirates vs. Cardinals. Students will be traveling by bus to and from the park. Details to follow.
