ACTIVITIES ~ CLUBS ~ ORGANIZATIONS 2010-2011
*Academic Games – Mr. Brad Kavo
Students participate in six local tournaments where they compete in social studies, language arts, and mathematics games. Qualifiers may also compete at the national tournament.
*All-School Musical – Ms. Mariann Fox, Fine Arts Supervisor; Musical Director Jason Greenawalt
This is a yearly presentation of the Fine Arts Department held in May. Auditions are held several months prior to the musical performances.
*American Field Service – Ms. Elizabeth Miller
This organization plans activities for students here from abroad and assists with the Foreign
Exchange Program.
Amnesty International – Mr. David Black
Students participate in an international movement to protect human rights.
*Art Club – Mr. Mike Carlin, Mr. Greg Kuhar
This club helps interested students learn about pursuing co-curricular art experiences.
*Band-Marching, Concert, Jazz – Ms. Louise Marino, Marching; TBA, Concert & Jazz
Members must be skilled in playing an instrument. Concert Band is a credited scheduled course.
*Best Buddies – Adam Vlcek, Mark DeBernardis
This organization is dedicated to enhancing the lives of intellectually disabled students in Mt. Lebanon High School. Students participate in social activities throughout the year to increase communication, understanding, and most importantly, to have fun. All are welcome.
Big Sister – Ms. Tina Raspanti
The purpose of the club is to link girls in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 in service and friendship.
Bowling – Mr. Mark DeBernardis
Bowling is part of the intramural program at the high school.
Cafeteria Advisory Council - Ms. Tazeen Chowdhury
The council will meet with the Mt. Lebanon Food Service director to provide feed back and
suggestions from the students. The objective is to establish a link between the students and the food
service.
Chinese Club – Mrs. Pam Burrett
This club will explore Chinese culture and will provide insight into the culture.
* Indicates school sponsored activity. Clubs/organizations without * are student initiated and considered non-school sponsored activities. Each non-school sponsored activity must go through an annual application process.
*Community Service – Mrs. Judith Kolko
Opportunities are provided for students interested in volunteering in the school or community.
*Concert Choir – Mr. Jason Greenawalt
Students experience group participation in choral performances. Concert Choir is a credited,
scheduled course.
Crossword/Sudoku – Mr. Matt Roddy
This club provides the opportunity for students to do crosswords & Sudoku. The objective is to meet people and expand minds while drinking coffee.
Curling Club – Mr. Vince Scalzo
The purpose of this club is to garner student interest in the sport and to teach them the rules and
regulations that dictate how the sport is played.
*Dance Company – Mrs. CeCe Kapron
The Dance Company studies, choreographs and presents public performances. Dance Company is a
credited, scheduled course entered through audition.
*Devil’s Advocate – Mrs. Dawn Begor
The school newspaper is published monthly.
Emergency – Mr. Pete DiNardo
The purpose of the club is to educate students on the contemporary issues of world health and discuss the problems, causes, and possible responses to these issues.
Engineering and Design – Mr. Rich Manning
The objective of this club is to explored specified facets of engineering/architecture and the sciences
and art that they embody. This includes robotics, mechanics, space design and other dynamics.
*Environmental Club – Ms. Laura Wilcox
This club promotes environmental awareness and conservation at school and in the community. Students will promote conservation through recycling, reducing energy use, and participating in school and community environmental projects.
*Evening Theatre Company – Mrs. Cindy Schreiner
Evening Theatre Company is a class that produces evening theatre productions in November and
March. Pre-requisites include Theatre I, II, III, and Daytime Theatre Company.
*Executive Council – Mrs. Carlie McGinty and Class Advisors: Senior Class – Mr. Darren McGregor; Junior Class – Mr. Stu Snodgrass; Sophomore Class – Mrs. Laura Erdeljac; Freshman Class – Mr. Pete Bouvy. Students in grades 9-12 interested in serving the school and in creating school spirit may join their class council at any time. Class councils meet once a week prior to homeroom.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes – Mr. Oscar Shutt
This club ministers and provides fellowship through competitive athletics.
*Forensics (Speech & Debate) Team –Mrs. Lisa Hoffmann
This is a nationally affiliated group that provides debate and forensic opportunities.
*French Club – Mrs. Joan Hayden
The French Club organizes activities to promote the appreciation of the French language and the many francophone cultures around the world.
*Future Business Leaders of America – Mrs. Gwen Kassep
Business and Liberal Arts activity for students that fosters community service, competition, and
leadership through attendance at conferences and workshops as well as competitions. Qualifiers may also compete at the state and national levels.
*German Club – Ms. Kathy Haines
This club provides activities for students to speak and understand German.
Helping Hands – Mrs. Judith Kolko
Students offer support to various community service projects in the Pittsburgh area.
*History Club – Adam Lumish
This club encourages historical research and preparation for the National History Day contest.
*Homeroom Representatives – Homeroom Teachers and Mrs. Carlie McGinty
Representatives are selected in September by students and homeroom teachers. Duties include
picking up mail daily from homeroom mailboxes, attending monthly Student Council meetings,
and keeping homerooms up-to-date on all current school information.
Interfaith Alliance – Mrs. Peg Meyers
The purpose of this club is to generate an understanding of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam through discussion topics and forums.
*Intramural Sports – Mr. Mark DeBernardis
A variety of intramural sports are available and may be organized according to student interest. All
students are eligible to participate except the members of interscholastic squads of the same sport.
*Latin Club – Mr. Chris Sobieralski
This club provides activities for students interested in Roman culture and travel.
*Lebanon LOG – Mrs. Margaret Davidson
This is the high school yearbook. Students work on this publication throughout the year. The book is
published and distributed in the spring.
Lebo Lifeline – Mr. Doug Szokoly
Lebo Lifeline welcomes new students into the high school. Students are matched with new students and work to make them feel comfortable/connected/accepted.
*Library Aides – Ms. Christy Smith, Librarian
Students help the second floor library staff.
*Men’s Ensemble – Mr. Jason Greenawalt
This group is part of the Choral Music performance program. Auditions are required.
* Mock Trial – Mr. Gary Ford
This organization provides an opportunity for students to participate in a trial as an attorney
or witness in a real courtroom before a judge and jury.
*Model United Nations – Mr. George Savarese, Mr. Pete DiNardo, Mr. Adam Lumish
Student teams represent countries in the United Nations at area competitions.
*Moving Forward – Ms. Michelle Murray
Student and faculty members of this organization collaborate to design and implement homeroom- based activities that promote a positive school climate. Building relationships, respect, and a sense of caring for others are important goals.
MTLCOTA – Mt. Lebanon Chapter of Operation Troop Appreciation – Mr. Rolf Briegel
This club will help provide services to the U.S. Military by writing cards & sending packages to soldiers.
*MTLSN Productions – Ms. Michelle Kramer
This organization provides opportunities for students interested in television production and editing.
Music for Mt. Lebanon – Community Service Coordinator, Mrs. Judith Kolko
Students usher for five performances held in the high school auditorium during the school year.
*Odyssey of the Mind – Mr. Joseph Tighe
This organization includes students who participate in creative problem-solving competitions.
Students will meet on a regular basis to learn and develop spontaneous problem solving skills and to plan long-term projects.
*Office Aides – Mrs. Gina Stein, Principal’s Office
Volunteers assist in business offices during study halls.
*Orchestra – Mr. Robert Vogel
The orchestra is open to interested students proficient in instruments of a symphony orchestra.
Orchestra is a credited, scheduled course. The wind and percussion players are selected by audition.
*Outdoors Club – Mr. Carl Pierce (not on the faculty)
This club is for students who love the great outdoors. Activities include biking on bike trails, exploring wild (undeveloped) caves, flat water kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and more.
*Percussion Ensemble – Mr. Rick Minnotte
This group is a segment of the band which performs concert percussion. Student instrumentalists are proficient in several instruments such as drums, xylophone, maraca, etc. Auditions are required.
Philosophy Club – Mr. Justin Bello
This club will create a suitable environment for intellectually stimulating discussions and debate. A
scholarly approach will be taken in the pursuit of knowledge and to seek answers to many of history’s
most perplexing questions.
*Photography Club – Mr. Jon Batchelor
Members learn to take pictures correctly.
*Principal’s Advisory Council – Dr. Ron Davis
Students from each grade level meet monthly with the principal to discuss issues of importance in the
high school.
Psychology Club – Ms. Tina Raspanti
Students will further their knowledge and understanding of psychology through various activities, informative videos, and possibly individual research presented to the group.
*Public Address Studio Announcing – Mr. Rolf Briegel
Students operate the P. A. system and read the morning announcements. If a student is interested, please stop by Mr. Briegel's room or contact him at rbriegel@mtlsd.net
*PULSE - Mr. Craig Mysliwczyk
Pulse uses web-based publication methods to produce a multi-media arts web disc that reflects the best poetry, fiction, photography, short film, art, and music the school has to offer.
Quidditch Club – Mr. Mark DeBernardis
Students bond through common interests of Harry Potter and Quidditch. It is part of Intramural Sports.
R.P.G. Club – Role-Playing Game – Mr. Justin Bello
This club provides an atmosphere that through various board & Pencil-and-paper games, encourages an atmosphere of critical thinking, imagination, and camaraderie among students of various social groups and backgrounds.
Robotics Club – Mr. Duane Lewis
This club examines and creates robots using Lego Mind Storms and digital logic.
*Rockettes and Silks – Ms. Louise Marino, Jason Greenawalt
These are auxiliary groups of the Marching Band. Auditions are held in the spring each year.
*Science Club – TBA
Students will do original science, mathematics, or computer science research and compete in the
Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science and the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair
with that research.

*Ski Club – Mr. Rob Bergstresser, Mr. Ray Schrader
Members plan and work out details for ski trips during the season.
*Spanish Club – Mrs. Sue Quintero
This club is for students interested in Spanish culture and in speaking the language.
*Stage Crew – Mr. John Pivetz
The crew is responsible for staging and lighting for all auditorium and Fine Arts Theatre events for
school and rental groups.
*Student Council – Mrs. Carlie McGinty
This organization includes the Class Executive Councils, homeroom representatives, club representatives and the class sponsors. The organization plans school-wide activities, publicizes school events, promotes school sprit, develops leadership skills, and oversees student fundraising projects. Student Council also serves as the governing body for the students.
*Student Curriculum Advisory Council (SCAC) – Mr. Peter Berg, Guidance Supervisor
Students work with school administrators to discuss and evaluate the academic program.
*Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) – Mrs. Dawn Begor
Members provide informational programs and projects to encourage positive decisions and to increase student awareness of the dangers involved during high risk moments with regard to alcohol or drugs.
*Students II Students – Mrs. Tara Leja, Mr. Chad Johnston
Members provide tours for new students and help to organize the Freshman/New Students’
Orientation and the Middle School Visitations.
Teen Leadership Council – Mrs. Peg Meyers
Teen Leadership Council will work to help break down barriers between students and cliques and will discuss cultural and discrimination issues and how to create an environment that welcomes diversity.
*Thespians – Mrs. Cindy Schreiner
The Thespian Society is an extension of Theatre classes.
*Triple Trio – Mr. Jason Greenawalt
This group is part of the Choral Music performance program. Auditions are required.
*Video Crew – Mr. Brad May
The crew films and tapes various school events.
