SERVICE ACADEMY NOMINATION PROCESS (Juniors) Each year Congressman Tim Murphy nominates up to ten outstanding students for each vacancy available to him at four service academies. This process is competitive and requires a student to display exemplary academic achievement and commitment to serving his or her community.
On Saturday, May 10, 2008, Congressman Tim Murphy will be hosting an information session regarding the service academy nomination process at Mt. Lebanon High School. The session will take place in Room 447, starting at 9:00 a.m. On hand will be representatives from the separate academies (US Air Force, US Coast Guard, US Merchant Marines, US Military, and US Naval Academies) to give an overview of the nomination process and to discuss any questions regarding this process with the students and their parents who reside in the 18th Congressional District. It will also cover all aspects of the nomination process from start to finish, as well as a break out session afterwards for the students to speak to the academies individually. Students interested in an appointment to one of these academies are invited to attend. If you have any questions regarding this informational session, please contact Elaine Klofta at 412-344-5583 or

The Robertson Scholars Program
Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
The Robertson Scholars Program of Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks students who have made an impact in your school and local communities and perhaps beyond, those who have demonstrated innovative leadership and even more potential. We award approximately thirty-six scholarships a year – eighteen at Duke and eighteen at UNC-Chapel Hill. The program also provides special courses, summer community-building service opportunities in the United States and abroad, support for research and travel, and a laptop computer for each scholar. Robertson Scholars also have at their fingertips the abundant resources of two of the most highly regarded universities in the nation.
Please encourage students to learn more about the Robertson Program and complete a Supplemental Materials form, available on our web site at www.robertsonscholars.org.
Please remember that while some candidates will be selected for consideration from their application to Duke and/or UNC-Chapel Hill, completing the supplemental form is the only way to ensure that a student's materials will be reviewed by the Robertson Scholars Program.
