The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo translated by Alan R. Clarke

This fable centers on a young Spanish shepard seeking his destiny.  His travels take him to Egypt where he meets a real alchemist.  The young Shepard needs to listen to the advice given to him throughout the journey and learn the lessons that are sometimes hard to learn. The simple tale tells of following one’s dreams, listening to one’s heart and being willing to see the signs that will guide one through life.

Twilight – Stephanie Meyer

Seventeen -year old Bella decides to leave her home in Phoenix to go live with her father in Forks, Washington. There she has to learn to fit into a new community that includes a strange family, the Cullens. This strange family hides a secret; they are all vampires. To make matters worse, Bella is completely in love with Edward Cullen. She can’t seem to pull away even though the closer she gets to him, the more she puts her family in danger.

Briar Rose by Jane Yolen

A young woman's promise to her dying grandmother leads her on a quest to discover the truth of her own family's mysterious beginnings in this grim retelling of the classic fairy tale ``Briar Rose,' or ``The Sleeping Beauty.' In Yolen's modern-day version, the wall of thorns becomes a barbed-wire prison, while the sleeping princess is both victim and heroine. The latest in the ``Fairy Tale' series showcases Yolen's skill at transforming the real world into a realm of fantasy. A good selection for adult and YA fantasy collections.
