Math

This month we continue to work on multiplication, division and geometry. Some concepts that students are exploring include slides, flips, and turns, angles, symmetry, and ordered pairs. Please continue to review multiplication and division facts daily with your child.
Language Arts

We will continue the theme, Tell Me a Story. In this theme, students learn that storytelling takes many forms and serves many purposes. As they read stories and meet storytellers from around the world, they discover new ways to tell their own stories. This month we will be reading “Coyote Places The Stars” by Harriet Peck Taylor, “Why Mosquitos Buzz in People’s Ears” by Verna Aardema, Lon Po Po by Ed Young, and The Crowded House by Eva Jacob. At the end of the month, students will take the holistic and language skills tests.
Look for the School-Home Connection sheet to be sent home prior to each new story. For vocabulary lists and review activities, visit the Harcourt site at
Spelling patterns that students will find this month include words that are homophones, words with /ur/, words with double consonants, and words with –er and –est.
In Grammar, students will look at adjectives that tell what kind and how many, articles, and adjectives that compare.
In Writer’s Workshop students will continue Report Writing and writing to a prompt.
*If you have an expertise or experience that relates to our theme or other topics that we are studying, please contact Mr. Hansberry or Mrs. Scouvart to set up a time to come in and share with students.
