First Graders just finished an author study of Mo Willems.
New titles by Mr. Willems just added to our library include two copies of the newest pigeon book, The Pigeon Wants a Puppy and three of the Elephant and Piggie books, My Friend Is Sad, There is a Bird on My Head and Today I Will Fly.
Second Graders completed an author study of the mouse books by Kevin Henkes. New books just added to our collection include Mermaids and the World Book Encyclopedia of Animals (available for check out).
Third Graders have been focusing on Mystery books. We read The Mystery at 17 Rue Petit and The Dark Stairs: A Herculeah Jones Mystery by Betsy Byars. The students enjoyed The Dark Stairs so much that we've ordered the entire series of the Herculeah Jones mysteries for our collection. The books should arrive before Thanksgiving.
Fourth Graders have been working on the book blog, recommending titles to each other for reading selections. We worked on similes and metaphors with Hanoch Piven's My Dog is as Smelly as Dirty Socks, and the students created visual simile poems about family members and friends.
Fifth Graders just completed their first book projects for Mrs. Pitzer on fiction titles. The student projects are displayed in the library! In November and December, Fifth Graders will be working on Historical Fiction novels for the project due December 17. See the Pathfinders and Resource Guides for Historical Fiction and a list of recommended titles. Our blog will shift to Historical Fiction this month.
Kindergarten students are working on library citizenship and book appreciation.
