NEWS RELEASE FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
FROM THE MT. LEBANON CAFETERIA
The Mt. Lebanon School District’s Food Service Department is committed to providing healthy and well-balanced meals to your children. Along with teaching the children to make healthy lunch choices, we also understand that children should be able to have an occasional treat. The Food Service Department will provide a healthy snack day on Tuesdays and low fat ice cream on Thursdays.
Parents have the option to limit their children’s ability to purchase snacks and ice cream. If you do not want your child to purchase these items, please e-mail Dave Misterka, Food Service Supervisor at dmisterka@mtlsd.net
ALA CARTE / SNACK PROGRAM:
ALL ITEMS ARE $ .75 EACH
Ala carte items and snacks will be available this year. Any student, even those who bring lunches from home, will be able to purchase side items such as fresh fruit, vegetables, side salads, juice, bottled water and milk.
Low fat snack bags will be sold on Tuesdays only and low fat Ice Cream will be sold every Thursday. All items except milk (.40) are $.75 each. This is a cashless system. Students must have money on their accounts to purchase ala carte items. Cash is not accepted at the register. If a student has a zero or negative balance, he/she will not be able to purchase ala carte items.
ICE CREAM SALES ON THURSDAY
The Food Service Department began piloting an ice cream day at Howe Elementary in September. We will begin selling low fat ice cream every Thursday starting October 7 at Jefferson, Foster and Lincoln Elementary Schools. Ice cream sales will begin at Markham, Hoover and Washington on October 14.
