What’s New in Physical Education:
Welcome back! I am looking forward to an active and exciting year. We will start the year will an introduction and review of basic fundamental motor patterns, levels, eye hand coordination and space awareness. The lower graders will work on games like “Builders and Dozers”, “Queen Bee”, “Pocahontas” and “License to Move”. These games along with many others encourage safe movement at a variety of levels, and speeds. The upper graders will review fundamental motor patterns and basic throwing and catching skills. They will also have the option of participating in our Punt Pass and Kick competition. The winners in each age group will have the opportunity to advance to the next local level of competition and maybe even Heinz Field!
As we get further into fall students will also participate in games like “Titanic”, “Fitness Monopoly”, “Battleship” and the “Autumn Obstacle course” which encourage teamwork, and cooperation.
My objective in Physical Education is to teach the students the importance of being active for lifetime health and wellness. I strive to help our Hoover students develop the understanding and skills to participate in group or individual activities that they can enjoy throughout their lives.
Exercise is fun.....and good for your heart!

What’s New in Health:
We will begin the year talking about the importance of hygiene. Students will discuss the importance of showering and clean clothes, hand washing, and how to prevent and get rid of head lice.
October is Fire Safety Month. Students will learn the importance of fire prevention in the home. The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department will visit the students to further discuss fire safety. Students will also spend time learning about, personal, weather, pedestrian, and internet safety.
Next: Body Systems….How does our body use food for energy? What parts of the body make up the circulatory system? What do nerves do? All these answers and more coming soon!

WASH THOSE HANDS................IT'S EASY WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT! Handing washing is the #1 way to stop the spread of germs........
Proper Hand-Washing Techniques The U.S. Centers for Disease Control offers these instructions for proper hand-washing:
· Use soap and running water.
· Rub your hands vigorously as you wash them (10-15 seconds, soap should be bubbly).
· Wash all surfaces, including the backs of hands, between fingers, and under fingernails.
· Rinse well and leave the water running until after drying hands.
· Dry your hands with a paper towel.
· Turn off the water using the paper towel.
