Counselors’ Corner
Student of the Month Program
In Pennsylvania, each middle and high school has a Student Assistance Program (SAP). Jefferson Middle School’s SAP team is comprised of our nurse, at least one teacher from each team, teachers from many off-team disciplines, both counselors, both principals, a school psychologist, and a school services coordinator from Family Links.
The purpose of the SAP team is to help students find services and assistance within the school and, if needed, in the community. The SAP team does not diagnose, treat, or refer students for treatment. Rather, we provide parents with information so that they can make choices as a family that will support their child.
Students come to the SAP team in a myriad of ways. Typically, a student is referred to the SAP team by their team of teachers. In addition, there can be self-referrals, parent referrals, and peer referrals. The SAP team will not meet with your child without written permission.
If you have further questions regarding Jefferson’s SAP team, please contact us or stop by the school to read additional literature regarding our Student Assistance Program. Brochures can be found in each of the main offices of the school.
Sincerely,
