The national PTA first recognized the importance of schools and parents working together for the betterment of children in 1897. Since that time the organization has grown and expanded across the country without losing site of that original goal. They still work diligently to identify issues and make a positive difference in the lives of children. Of course, this requires time, effort, money, and commitment.
Our local Lincoln PTA is a stellar example of these ideals at work. Currently, the Lincoln PTA is composed of thirty-seven active committees with numerous volunteers who all contribute to the lives of your children. For example, they provide funding for the student assemblies, many of our after-school clubs, Pizza Lunch, many library programs, indoor recess supplies, and numerous other programs. Additionally, they also supplement classroom programs and supplies. Think of how much Lincoln students would miss without this support!
To coordinate this ambitious agenda and the multiple committees, the PTA meets monthly. The meeting times are varied to allow as many people as possible to participate. Moreover, the individual committees meet periodically throughout the school year to accomplish their individual goals. These groups, along with the other district schools’ parent-teacher associations coordinate together under the umbrella of the district’s PTA Council. Together, their work benefits more than 5,000 district students!
These ambitious efforts cannot continue without your help. There are a myriad of ways to contribute. For example, you may have the time to help out with the meetings. Others may contribute by serving on a committee. The committees are structured to accommodate busy schedules. With a little investigation you should be able to find a spot that is tailored to the amount of time that you have available. Finally, those without time often contribute financially. This can be as simple as joining the PTA.
Each contribution, no matter how small, is important to the success of the group. By working together, just as the original founders envisioned, great things can be accomplished for children. Our staff at Lincoln is committed to this goal. We need your help to make it a reality.
Thank you in advance for your contribution!
Sincerely,
James M. Salerno, Principal
