"The volley fired by a young Virginian in the backwoods of America set the world on fire. - Horace Walpole
"I fortunately escaped without any wound, for the right wing, where I stood, was exposed to and received all the enemy's fire, and it was the part where the man was killed, and the rest wounded. I heard the bullets whistle, and, believe me there is something charming in the sound."
-George Washington

Welcome to Mr. Mikesell's French and Indian War Unit. Within this unit students get away from traditional methods of learning and embark on "hands-on history," where they are no longer passive observers, but active learners, who view, interpret, touch, and bring history to life. Students studied indepth, the Jumonville Affair and created a mock trial from the events that unfolded that fateful day in May 1754. While learning about these key events students used multiple resources such as history books, internet, primary source documents, and "visual discovery." Students researched Robert Griffing's images that pertained to the French and Indian War era and extended their awareness and passion to enhance their knowledge base for the mock trial experience.
