Artist in Residence: Paula Cherian, Markham Elementary – Daviea Davis, a renowned, Pittsburgh-area mosaic artist, will work lead Markham students through the creation of their own mosiac. This project provides students with the opportunity take a project from inception to completion. The mosaic created will be on permanent display at school.
Artifact Auction: Mark Kramer, Jefferson Middle – Students create their own museum exhibition by creating a poster of artifacts to fit a specific theme. Students learn about the artifacts, take turns being the auctioneer and collaborate to create a poster theme. Student groups compete against other groups to bid on museum artifacts.
Technology Enhanced Literature: TJ Gray, Jefferson Middle – iPad minis will be used to enhance the learning support students' study of literature.
Technology Enhanced Physical Education: Jessica Cook, Mellon Middle; Joe Urmann, Jefferson Middle; Frank Cremenose, MTL High School - Students will use iPad apps to track fitness levels and activity both in class and at home thereby improving their overall fitness.
Flipped Classroom: Kevin McCann, Mellon Middle - Mr. McCann will create a "flipped" classroom whereby students spend their homework time learning the basics for the next lesson and classroom time working with the teacher to test and further explore the newly learned concept.
Kill-a-Watts for Energy Audits: Michael Gullo, MTL High School - Kill-a-Watts will help students in the AP Environmental Science class more accurately measure and calculate the amount of electrical energy used. This will be especially helpful to students when they conduct real-world energy audits for local businesses.
