Senior Matthew Loughran was recently awarded the Scott E. Folmer STEPP Award sponsored by The Allegheny County Local Task Force on the Right to Education. The recipient of this award is a student who through a single act of courage or continued friendship has helped another student who receives special education services be an active an accepted member of the community. Valerie Zipay-Demsky nominated Matthew. Her son Robert Demsky and Matt met while in physical education class together and became friends. Both Matthew and Robert joined Lebo Stars (Best Buddies) and according to Ms. Zipay-Demsky, over the past three years Matt has played an instrumental role in Robert's social life. Matt has been with Robert at all of the school dances, games, events, and has volunteered his study hall to help Robert in speech class. They are true friends.
