Holiday cheer was all around, along with yards of colorful tulle, in Mrs. Sharon Silver's Child Development classes today. The students were happily at work making tutu's for chronically ill children today to support an ongoing program at Children's Hospital called "Tutu Tuesdays." Started by Kathy Gaughan, a pediatric nurse and Mt. Lebanon resident, both the children and staff at Children's wear the whimsical tutus every Tuesday to boost patient and family morale. The Pittsburgh Ballet even made a visit to the floor last spring wearing their tutus in support of the program.
Ms. Gaughan spoke to students about careers in pediatric nursing while instructing the tutu making. Through clouds of colorful tulle, students worked at creating tutus for nurses, doctors and patients. It is nice to know that a child's stay at Children's will be a little brighter because of the tutus our students made today.
