Chapter 17: Reaction Kinetics
Why do you need to strike a match to get it to burn?  It seems that you have to put energy into it before it will give off energy (overall exothermic).  Why is this reaction fast while others are slow like rusting?
These questions and more about the speed of chemical reactions will be answered this chapter.
