FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I drop my child off for school?

If you are driving to drop off or pick up your child from school you can do so at the designated zone in back of the building on Lawncroft Drive.  If you are not using the designated zone, please park in a parking place to pick up your child.  Do not stop in front of the school at any time to drop off or pick up your child.  It is illegal to do so.

Is there anyone to help my child at the drop off?

An employee of the school district is at the drop off/pick up location from 8:30 am to 9:00 am, 11:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 12:30 to 12:45 p.m. and 3:20 p.m. to 3:50p.m.  A fifth grade safety is also available to help kindergarteners get from the drop off to the school.

How can I get more involved in my child's classroom?

There is a meeting held in September to discuss this important job.  You do not have to attend this meeting to help in the classroom.  Every class has one main homeroom parent and an unlimited of other homeroom parents.  Ask your child's teacher how to get in touch with the main homeroom parent and they will add you to the list of people who are contacted for help in the classroom.

Do I have to do everything the PTA sponsors?

All PTA activities are completely voluntary.  The PTA sponsors a wide variety of activities and events for children and their families.  Parents should chose the activities that suit their families' needs.  If you have any questions about an event, call the chairperson or anyone on the PTA board.

What can my child do for lunch?

All children have the option of going home for lunch or staying at school.  There is not a cafeteria at the school so children must bring their own lunch.  Milk is available for purchase for 10 cents.

If my child stays for lunch, how much time to they have to eat?

There is a general schedule for lunch where children eat according to grade level.  There are 3 lunch periods of 20 minutes each as follows:

1st and 2nd grade       11:45-12:05
3rd and 4th grade      12:05-12:25
5th grade                   12:25-12:45

Children may stay in the lunchroom if they need more time to finish.

If my child stays for lunch, what do they do when they are not eating?

Children go outside for recess as much as possible.  They may stay inside due to inclement weather.  This is decided by Mrs. Kirkham.  Most days there is a craft table run by PTA volunteers.  During the winter months there are a variety of lunchtime clubs available to keep children busy.  These include Junior Great Books, Chess Club, Language Club, Fitness Club.  Flyers are sent home in late fall to sign up for these clubs.
