Pages Full of Passion & Creativity! Jefferson & Mellon Middle Schools Release Literary Magazines. P

Jefferson and Mellon Middle Schools hosted events to celebrate the release of their literary magazines.

At Jefferson Middle, student writers, artists, selection staff members, typists, and Writing Lab assistants were recognized for their hard work and contributions to the magazine, Our Piece of Mind. This year, 192 pieces of writing were submitted for consideration. Of those, 112 were accepted for publication. This year’s Our Piece of Mind, showcases 158-pages of original student writing and illustrations.

  • The Promising Young Writers finalists, Sophia Fabyonic and Lucy Moon, were recognized and presented with certificates from the National Council of Teachers of English.
  • Harper Davies, the designer of this year's front and back cover, was recognized and presented with a sketchbook to continue her artistic endeavors.
  • This year's student editors, Maria Burns and Marti Weisberg, were recognized for their hard work and masterful editing skills. Each received a journal to encourage their continued writing as they move into high school.

Approximately 115 students attended The Outlook Literary Magazine's Publication Party in the Mellon Middle School breakout area. All selection staff, worker bees, typists, and staff artists were invited along with all published authors and artists including the Promising Young Writers finalists. Students had the opportunity to share a snack and read some of their own work alongside their fellow contributors. To read The Outlook online, visit this link
