Mt. Lebanon Students Bring Home 28 Awards at National Academic Games Tournament

From April 25–29, 28 Mt. Lebanon students in grades 4–11 traveled to Washington, D.C., to compete with over 1,000 students from across the country at the 58th Academic Games Leagues of America (AGLOA) National Tournament.

After qualifying through local tournaments earlier this year, students participated in seven rigorous academic games at Nationals: Equations, On-Sets, Linguishtik, Propaganda, Presidents, Current Events, and this year’s theme game, Our Nation’s Capital: Washington, D.C.

Together, our students brought home  28 medals and trophies from the national competition. 

Students who qualified and attended this year’s national competition are:

  • High School: Owen Byrne, Teddy Carney, Nithin Girish, Sam Maxim, Dom Rowles, and Benjamin Watterson.
  • Mellon Middle School: Rohan Parekh and Charlie Webler.
  • Jefferson Middle School: Dylan Eshenbaugh, Garren Evan, Jaden Kadap, Graham Smith, Logan Prosser, James Woodruff, and Henry Workman.
  • Foster Elementary School: Arthur Dobbins.
  • Howe Elementary School: Roshan Airuvelil, Aadit Dutta, Jack Stoner, and Dominic Tedesco.
  • Jefferson Elementary School: Alexander Ding and Jeffrey Zhou.
  • Lincoln Elementary School: William Dunbar, Brody Lortz, Kyle Milburn, Liam Prosser, Fritz Strauss, and Stas Tokarczyk.

The following Mt. Lebanon players earned individual and team awards:

Senior Division - 11th and 12th grades

  • Individual Awards
    • High School junior Owen Byrne won 1st place overall in Current Events and received a medal for 8th place overall in Theme.
  • Team Awards
    • High School junior Owen Byrne's teams, the Tour-NATOs and the Foggy Bottoms, received medals for 4th place in Current Events and 5th place in Theme, respectively.
    • High School junior Sam Maxim’s team, Secret Service, received medals for 4th place in Presidents.

Junior Division - 9th and 10th grades

  • Individual Awards
    • High School freshman Teddy Carney won 2nd place overall in Presidents.
    • High School sophomore Ben Watterson received medals for 5th place overall in Propaganda and 8th place overall in Theme.
  • Team Awards:
    • High School freshman Teddy Carney’s team, Oppenheimer's Bomb Squad, won 3rd place in Current Events.

Middle Division - 7th and 8th grades

  • Jefferson Middle School student Graham Smith received a medal for 5th place overall in Current Events and his team, the Fly Eagles, won 2nd place in Current Events.


Elementary Division - 4th, 5th, and 6th grades

  • Individual Awards
    • Jefferson Elementary School student Alexander Ding received a medal for 10th place overall in Presidents.
    • Lincoln Elementary School Students Fritz Strauss received a medal for 5th place overall in Theme.
  • Team Awards
    • Presidents team, Buchanan’s Bunch, received trophies for their 5th place finish. Team members include:
    • Dylan Eshenbaugh - Jefferson Middle School
    • Roshan Airuvelil and Aadit Dutta - Howe Elementary School
    • Alexander Ding and Jeffrey Zhou - Jefferson Elementary School
    • Current Events team, AI-Generators, received trophies for their 5th place finish.
      • Team members include: Garren Evan and Jaden Kadap - Jefferson Middle School, Roshan Airuvelil and Jack Stoner - Howe Elementary School, Alexander Ding - Jefferson Elementary School
    • Propaganda team, the Academic Detachers, received medals for an 11th place finish. Team members include:
      • Garren Evan - Jefferson Middle School, Rohan Parekh and Charlie Webler - Mellon Middle School, Alexander Ding and Jeffrey Zhou - Jefferson Elementary School
