Along with our community partners, Mt. Lebanon School District continues to monitor conditions following this week’s severe storm. This communication includes important updates regarding instruction for Friday, May 2, 2025.
As of Thursday afternoon, two schools remain without power: Hoover and Howe Elementary Schools.
If power is not restored by 9 p.m. this evening, on Friday, May 2, 2025:
- Flexible Instruction Day (FID): Hoover Elementary and Howe Elementary will utilize a Flexible Instruction Day (FID) due to ongoing power outages. FID information will be shared with Hoover and Howe staff and families later this afternoon.
- We understand that some students may not have devices or access to power. These students will be granted extensions. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our top priority.
- We are also aware that some staff members remain without power. All FID instruction will be asynchronous.
- If power is restored by 9 p.m. this evening, we will share another message to announce in-person instruction.
All other schools will be in-person on Friday, May 2, 2025:
- In-Person Instruction: This includes Foster, Jefferson, Lincoln, Markham, and Washington Elementary Schools, Jefferson and Mellon Middle Schools, and the High School.
Additional Updates For All MTLSD Families:
- We recognize that many families remain without power and may have relocated to temporary housing until the power is restored. If your child(ren) is/are unable to attend school due to the power outage, please submit an absence excuse to your school with this as the reason.
- We understand that clean up in the community may be ongoing for some time. Please use caution when you are out in the community. If you see caution tape or barricades, on streets or sidewalks, do not use that route. For storm-related updates from the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon, please visit mtlebanon.org/stormnotes.
- PSSA testing, originally scheduled for April 30 and May 1, will now take place on Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6.
- Make-up sessions for PSSA testing will resume on Monday, May 5.
- The lunch menu for elementary schools will include the chicken patty sandwich as the hot entree. At the middle schools and high school, the Wednesday (4/30) menu will be served.
- After-school activities and athletics will be communicated by coaches and directors.
- All performances of Anastasia are expected to run as scheduled at Mt. Lebanon High School Auditorium, May 1-3, 2025. Tickets are still available both online and at the door (cash/check). If you are able, please support this incredible cast and crew!
It has been a challenging few days for our community and the greater Pittsburgh area. Despite these difficulties, there is much to be grateful for. Thank you to our first responders, municipal public works team, Distinct maintenance and facilities staff, and the crews working tirelessly to restore power. Your dedication and long hours are deeply appreciated as you help rebuild and restore our community. We also want to thank our families and neighbors who have stepped up to support one another. Thank you for your continued commitment to making Mt. Lebanon a great place to live and learn.
We will share additional updates as they become available.
