2021 Retirees Honored at School Board Meeting


The School Board honored the thirty-three District employees retiring this year at the meeting on June 14, 2021. The video clip of the presentation is available above.

In Dr. Steinhauer's opening remarks he stated, "Each year, we bid farewell and happy retirement to some members of our  faculty and staff. Through their diligent and skillful work, our retiring employees have enriched the lives of our students and their colleagues and have directly contributed to the District’s success. This year we have 14 professional and 19 support staff employees retiring. Together they represent over 723 years of expertise and experience. Congratulations and best wishes to our retirees. We are grateful for their service."

  • Jane Baranet  joined the District in 1996 as a lunchroom attendant at Lincoln Elementary School. She proceeded to serve in clerical support roles as the 10 month library clerk at Hoover Elementary School, the 10 month secretary to the assistant principal at Mellon Middle School, and since July 2003, as the 12 month building secretary at Foster Elementary School. Her retirement is effective July 28, 2021. (24.75 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Antoinette Benvenuti was hired in the District in September 1998, as a general cafeteria worker at the High School. She worked with the food services department for 16.5 years, until transferring to the athletic office in February 2015. She retires from her role as athletic office clerk on August 6, 2021. (22.75 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Janice Billotte joined the Mt. Lebanon High School team as a long-term substitute health and physical education teacher during spring 2000. She was hired as a part-time contract health and physical education teacher at the High School for the 2000-01 school year, and then granted full-time status beginning the 2001-02 school year. She remained in that role through 2012-13, and then left the District for a family relocation out of state. She returned to the area in 2015 and served as a special education classroom aide at Mellon Middle School for 1.5 years until returning to the High School as a full-time contract health and physical education, where she remains until her retirement at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (19 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Cissy Bowman joined the Mt. Lebanon School District in November 2000, fulfilling the District’s public relations needs for the past 20 years as the Director of Communications. Her retirement is effective July 2, 2021. (20.85 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Constance “Connie” Booth  began her service in the Mt. Lebanon School District as a long-term substitute English teacher in the High School during spring 2001 and during the 2001-02 school year. She was hired as a full-time contract English teacher for the 2002-03 school year at the High School. She taught in the English Department at the High School for the remainder of her career with the District. Her retirement is effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (20 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Nancy Campbell joined the Mt. Lebanon School District in August of 1998 as a supervisor of secondary education for the World Languages Department. She transitioned to French teacher at the High School with the start of the 2013-14 school year, where she remained until her retirement in August 2020. (22 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Lynn Cherner was hired as a permanent substitute mathematics teacher at Mt. Lebanon High School for the 2003-04 school year. She became a contract mathematics teacher at the High School at the start of the following year. Her retirement from the High School mathematics team is effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (18 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Kathleen Ciorra was hired by the Mt. Lebanon School District food services department in October 2001, as a general cafeteria worker at the High School. She was promoted to cook in August of 2009, and serves at the High School in that role until her retirement in June 2021. (20 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Joan Coughey was hired as a permanent substitute 6th grade teacher at Washington Elementary School for the 1997-98 school year. She was awarded a contract position as an English language arts teacher at Mellon Middle School at the start of the 1998-99 school year. She serves at Mellon until her retirement at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (27 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Christy Friesner joined the District’s elementary music department at the start of the 1993-94 school year as a part-time contract band teacher at Hoover Elementary School. She was awarded full-time status during the 1994-95 school year, where she was assigned until transferring to Markham Elementary for the 2002-03 school year. During the remainder of her career with the District, she traveled between Foster, Markham, and Washington elementary schools. She retired from her teaching position in July 2020. (27 years with Mt. Lebanon)  


  • Lisa Gasbarro worked for the District as a permanent substitute elementary teacher during the 1987-88, 1988-89, and 1998-99 school years. She was hired to a contract elementary teacher position at Markham Elementary in January 1999, where she remained until her retirement in January 2021. (22 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Kathleen Graulty began working for the District in September 2002, as a part-time cafeteria monitor at Mt. Lebanon High School. She continued in that role until retiring in September 2020. (18 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Pam Jaras joined the substitute cafeteria worker pool in September 1994. She was awarded a permanent position as a general cafeteria worker at the High School in August 1996, where she remained until her promotion to cook at the start of the 2003-04 school year. She transferred to Mellon Middle School in August 2009, and remained there as cook until her retirement on September 2020. (26 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Regina Ketter joined the Mt. Lebanon School District as a permanent substitute strings music teacher at the High School for the 1991-92 school year. She was awarded contract status at the start of the following school year, and during her tenure with the District has taught at Mellon Middle, Washington, Lincoln, Howe, and Hoover elementary schools. Her retirement is effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (30 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Richard Kibsey served the District as a personal care assistant at Mt. Lebanon High School from the start of the 2001-02 school year until his retirement in October 2020. (19 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Susan Kordistos worked as a 12 month secretary to the secondary supervisors beginning in July 2002. She remained in that role until 2011, when she became a secretary to the High School unit principals and department chairs. She retired from the District in March 2021. (20 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Christine Lazarchik began her service in the Mt. Lebanon School District as a permanent substitute speech teacher during the 1987-88 school year. She served the District for 4 years as a permanent substitute in assignments at Markham, Lincoln, and Howe elementary schools. She was awarded a contract speech teacher position traveling between Markham and Lincoln elementary schools at the start of the 1991-92 school year, where she remains until her retirement at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (34 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Cynthia Martz has taught 6th grade in the Mt. Lebanon School District since the start of the 1990-91 school year. After three years as a permanent substitute 6th grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary, she was awarded a contract position at the start of the 1993-94 school year, and then transitioned to Jefferson Middle School in 1998-99 with the middle school reorganization. Her retirement is effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (31 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Lally Morley started in the District as a substitute cafeteria worker in February 2006, and was soon after awarded a contract position at the High School in March. She transitioned to the Jefferson Middle School cafeteria in May 2007, and then to the Jefferson Elementary School cafeteria in 2010, where she remained until her retirement in December 2020. (14.5 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Sue Quintero joined the Mt. Lebanon School District at the start of the 2001-02 school year, when she was hired as a full-time, contract Spanish teacher at the High School. She served at the High School during the remainder of her tenure with the District. Her retirement is effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (19.75 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Susan Redding was hired in August 2009, as a personal care assistant at Lincoln Elementary School. She was awarded the position of special education classroom aide in August 2016 and continued in that role until her retirement in April 2021. (12 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Peter Ritz joined the District in September 2006, as a substitute custodian and was soon after awarded a contract custodial position in October 2006. He has served at the High School and Howe Elementary School. He retired in August 2020. (13.75 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Dolores “Do” Sabol has served the Mt. Lebanon School District as a school nurse since being hired at the start of the 1995-96 school. She has worked at the Junior High, Mellon Middle, and Washington Elementary Schools, and served as a nurse for the summer programs. Her retirement is effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (26 years with Mt. Lebanon)

  • Diane Sadar joined the elementary music department at the start of the 2002-03 school year as a part-time strings music teacher, then advanced to full-time status the following year. She has taught at Hoover, Washington, and Lincoln elementary schools, and retired at the end of the first semester of the 2020-21 school year. (18 years with Mt. Lebanon)

  • Kimberly Shetter has served the District and students of Washington Elementary School as the building secretary since March 2013. Her retirement is effective June 30, 2021. (8.25 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Darlene Stack began working in the District as a part-time personal care assistant at Jefferson Elementary School in September 2000. She was promoted to a full-time position in March 2001, and remains in that role until her retirement at the end of the 2020-21 school year. (21 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Christopher Swartzwelder was hired to the substitute custodial pool in October 1989. He was awarded a contract custodial position in May 1991, at Washington Elementary School. After serving as the acting head custodian at Washington and Mellon Middles School for 4 months beginning in July 2001, he was promoted to the position permanently in November of that year. He transferred to the Jefferson School Complex in June 2007, where he remained until his retirement in May 2021. (32 years with Mt. Lebanon) 


  • Jeanine Szalinski started in the District in December 1991, as a clerk in central duplicating. She transferred to the finance office in September 1992, to serve as the child accounting and accounts receivable clerk. She was promoted to the position of administrative assistant to the superintendent in July 1997, with the additional assignment of secretary to the School Board, where she remains until her retirement effective July 2, 2021. (29.5 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Anna Tchakarian was hired by the District’s food services department as a general cafeteria worker at the High School in January 2002. During her 19+ years with the District, she has worked at the Senior High, Mellon Middle, and Jefferson Middle schools. Her retirement is effective at the end of June 2021. (19.25 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Linda Trumbull began her years of service at Mt. Lebanon as a part-time permanent substitute teacher in the High School math lab during the second semester of the 2005-06 school year. She was awarded the full-time math lab contract teaching position the following year and has supported the students of the High School in that role until her retirement in February 2021. (15 years with Mt. Lebanon) 


  • Marie Wahl joined the substitute pool for the food services department in April 2005. She was awarded a permanent position as a general cafeteria worker at the High School in January 2006, and then transferred to the Jefferson Middle School cafeteria in March 2007. She remained at Jefferson until her retirement in November 2020. (15 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Daniel Walsh retired from his position as head custodian at Howe Elementary School in August 2020. He was promoted to head custodian after working 5 years in the District as a contract custodian from June 1983 to June 1988. (37 years with Mt. Lebanon)


  • Sherry Zottola was hired in the District in September 1998, as a general cafeteria worker at the High School. She worked with the food services department for 16 years, until transferring to a position as a special education classroom aide at the High School in September 2014. She retired at the end of August 2020. (22 years with Mt. Lebanon)
