Two teams of Mt. Lebanon High School STEM Academy students competed in the final round of the Powering Pittsburgh competition at Heinz Field, both taking home the top prize! Members of the junior team are Carmen Hagerty, Ava Duchin, Chloe Spikula, and Madeline Snyder. The sophomore team members are Molly Schwertfuehrer, Anna Mares, Melody Reynolds, and Natalie McGee.
Both teams beat out the other 7 high school teams to garner the grand prize which is $1500, tickets for each student and one guest to a home Steelers game including a VIP meal, and VIP passes for each student to go onto the field during the pre-game warm up to meet the players and receive their check.
The students had to determine energy efficient ways for Pittsburgh to power Heinz Field and the surrounding communities, presenting their findings with a 10 minute PowerPoint presentation and models of their ideas. The competition was sponsored by Shell Polymers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Congratulations to these 8 students!
