This morning, the Mt. Lebanon PTA Council presented the Class of 2023 Georgia Pogue Scholarship winners. This award is very special to the PTA. Ms. Georgia Pogue was a beloved and talented guidance counselor who championed all students at Mt. Lebanon. Upon her untimely death in 1997, her family bequeathed $25,000 to the PTA Scholarship fund. In her memory, PTA renamed the fund the Georgia Pogue Personal Achievement Award. In 1993 PTA Council voted to annually recognize seven seniors, seven being symbolic of our neighborhood elementary schools. Each recipient receives $500 toward college expenses.
Nominated by high school administrators, faculty and/or staff, these students must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Have significantly improved their academic performance during their high school career,
- Are all-around good citizens or solid students,
- Are “always there,” dependable at doing tasks, but are not necessarily in the limelight.
These students are wonderful representatives of our Mt. Lebanon school community.
