Home Education

At Mt. Lebanon School District, we value the partnership between families and schools. Whether you’re just getting started or continuing your home education journey, our goal is to make requirements clear, communication easy, and support accessible.

Forms may be submitted in person, electronically to kwalters@mtlsd.net or by mail to:

Office of the Superintendent

Getting Started

Home education programs in Pennsylvania are guided by state requirements. To begin a program, families must submit an affidavit and supporting documentation to the District each school year.

To get started, you will need to:

  • Submit a notarized affidavit to the District.
  • Provide required medical and immunization records.
  • Outline your planned educational objectives.

Home education affidavits must be submitted in advance of commencing with a Home Education program and thereafter on or before August 1.

Annual Requirements

Throughout the school year, families are responsible for maintaining documentation of their student’s learning.
This includes:

  • A portfolio of student work.
  • A log of educational activities.
  • Standardized tests are required for home-schooled students in grades 3, 5, and 8.
  • An annual written evaluation completed by a qualified evaluator. Program evaluations are due each year by June 30.

These requirements help ensure students are making appropriate educational progress while allowing flexibility in how learning happens.
