November | 2017 MTLSD NEWSLETTER Student Achievement Continues Upward Trend The 2017 Student Outcomes Report was presented at the November 13 School Board meeting by Dr. Ron Davis and Dr. Marybeth Irvin. The data presents a positive report of the academic performance of the District. We are very proud that our students continue to meet or exceed the high expectations of our educational system and community. The Student Academic Outcomes Report is a collection of aggregate data from the 2016-2017 school year. This report represents summative achievement data that the District collects throughout the year via capstone assessments such as the SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement, Keystone Exam and Pennsylvania System of School Assessment exams. Lebanon School Board unanimously approved the appointment of Ms. Natasha Dirda as the new principal of Markham Elementary School. Ms. Dirda is currently a unit principal at Mt. Lebanon High School where she has served since 2015.Read More School District Recognized for Award-Winning Budget The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) awarded the Mt. Lebanon School District with the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) during the 2017–2018 budget year. The MBA promotes and recognizes excellence in school budget presentation and is conferred only to school districts whose budgets have undergone a rigorous review by financial professionals and have met or exceeded the program's stringent criteria. Read More High School Model UN Team Wins Big at Penn State Tournament The Mt. Lebanon Model UN team won 1st place at the 5th annual Pennsylvania High School Model UN Championship held at Penn State University on November 3-5. This marks the 5th consecutive year that Mt. Lebanon Model UN has won the 1st Place team award at Penn State for top high school. Ten of our students won individual awards in their committees. Read More Rock Pile Field Update At the November 13 School Board meeting, the Board reviewed additional information about the Rock Pile athletic field. The consensus among board members was to consider a competitive size field, but no decision has been made concerning a turf or grass surface. The next step includes a Request for Proposals by the District from design professionals. Event to Honor Coach Dick Black Please join us as we honor legendary coach Dick Black and recognize his basketball career with the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils on Saturday, November 25. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a tour of the new Hall of Champions in the Athletic Wing followed by the Plaque Dedication at 11 a.m in the South Gym. MTLHS Hall of Champions Celebration Nov. 25 Join us as we celebrate over 80 years of Mt. Lebanon High School Athletics hosted by the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devil Club on November 25, 2017 at 7:00 pm, Circuit Center & Ballroom. Read More Happy Thanksgiving! The Mt.
