April | 2018 MTLSD NEWSLETTER 2018-2019 Budget Update The School Board unanimously approved the 2018-2019 Proposed Final Budget of $98,208,314 with a millage rate of 24.33 mills reflecting a .40 mill increase, and includes using $750,000 from the fund balance. The millage increase translates into a $40 per year increase in real estate tax for every $100,000 of assessed value for homes in our community. Action on the final budget is planned for the School Board meeting on May 21, 2018. 2018 Pittsburgh Business Time Rankings The Pittsburgh Business Times released its 2018 rankings of the region's school districts. Mt. Lebanon School District ranks #3 in the region and #6 in the state and continues to perform as a leader in K-12 education in Pennsylvania. The District's 5th grade ranked first among elementary schools.
Pete DiNardo Honored with Community Award Congratulations to High School Social Studies teacher Mr. Peter DiNardo on his selection by the Mt. Lebanon Community Relations Board as the 2018 recipient of the Mt. Lebanon Community Service Award. The award honors people who make a significant contribution to the community in a volunteer capacity; participate in humanitarian activities that make a difference in the well-being of others; have exceptional ethical qualities; strive to improve and preserve the community and are an inspirational role model for the Mt. Mt. Lebanon School District Music Education Program Receives National Recognition The Mt. Lebanon School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This is the 10th year the District has been recognized for its outstanding music education program. Congratulations to our music faculty and students, and special thanks to our community for their strong support of the District's fine arts program.
Washington Librarian Selected for Leadership Academy Washington Elementary Librarian Sarah Beckman, was one of only 24 public school librarians from across the state selected to participate in the Mini Regional Leaders Academy for PA School Librarians. Ms Beckman was chosen to participate in this six-day leadership immersion cohort to develop her leadership and pedagogical skills.
Another Great Season for Model UN Team Congratulations to our Model UN team for closing out their season with a first place team award at Ohio State University's Model UN conference the weekend of April 6-8. The team won first place team honors against high schools from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois.

Howe Student Council Raises "Bucks for Buddies" Benefit Animal Friends Howe Elementary School Student Council was looking for a good cause to support for a community service project and decided that a "Bucks for Buddies" drive to benefit Animal Friends was the perfect fit. The students shared their idea with the 5th grade class and the students got to work on earning "bucks" to donate to a very good cause. As a result, they raised $300 one dollar bills to donate to Animal Friends. Read More
