November | 2019 MTLSD NEWSLETTER Outstanding Outcomes Dr. Ron Davis and Dr. Marybeth Irvin presented the 2019 Student Academic Outcomes at the November 18 School Board meeting. This annual report is a collection of academic data from the 2018-2019 school year that is used by the District as indicators of programmatic and student success. This year's report reflects exceptional academic achievement by our students as indicated in continued upward trends in the data presented from capstone assessments such as the SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement, Keystone, and Pennsylvania System of School Assessment exams.

MTLSD Budget Receives Meritorious Budget Award for 26th Year The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) recognized the Mt. Lebanon School District for excellence in budget presentation with the Meritorious Budget Award for the 2019–2020 budget year. This is the 26th year in a row ASBO has recognized the District with this distinction.
Powering Pittsburgh: Two High School STEM Academy Teams Take Top Honors Two teams of Mt. Lebanon High School STEM Academy students competed in the final round of the Powering Pittsburgh competition at Heinz Field with both taking home the top prize! Members of the junior team are Carmen Hagerty, Ava Duchin, Chloe Spikula, and Madeline Snyder. The sophomore team members are Molly Schwertfuehrer, Anna Mares, Melody Reynolds, and Natalie McGee.
Model UN Team Wins 1st Place at Penn State Tournament Congratulations to the High School Model UN team who won overall 1st Place honors at the Penn State Model UN Tournament on November 8-10. The team was awarded "Best Delegation" in the competition attended by over 300 students from across Pennsylvania.
Patrick Anderson-Cross Country WPIAL and PIAA Mt. Lebanon High School senior, senior Patrick Anderson, just concluded a truly spectacular cross country season winning both the WPIAL and PIAA Championships.
Going the Extra Mile: Mrs. Sue Miller At the November 11 School Board meeting, Mrs. Sue Miller, Markham Elementary School Secretary was presented with the Extra Mile Award. Mrs. Miller was nominated by Markham Principal Natasha Dirda.
Last Board Meeting for Three School Board Members November 18 was the last school board meeting for three board members. Larry Lebowitz served nine years, Bill Cooper eight years and and Al Frioni 2 years. They are all exemplary public servants who volunteered their time to serve the students, staff and residents of our school and community. We owe them our thanks and gratitude for the important contributions they made to our school district.
Mt. Lebanon Relay for Life Light Up Lebo Please consider donating to the American Cancer Society by participating in Light Up Lebo to keep the flame of hope lit by ordering luminaria in memory of someone lost to cancer or in honor of someone still fighting or who has beaten the disease. A light of hope will line the streets of LEBO on December 24th with light to symbolize the hope and perseverance that helps us to fight. The suggested luminaria kit donation is $20.00 each. Each kit will contain 10 luminaria to be lit on December 24th.
Hate Has No Home Here — A Community Conversation Plan to attend Hate Has No Home Here – Listening to and Learning from our Neighbors' Stories panel discussion on Saturday, December 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theater. The evening will be moderated by Zach Block, Executive Director of Repair the World.
