No. 412 ZUMBA (HS RM D106)

Thursdays, January 16th

Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements.  It is a cardio-based workout with components of resistance/sculpting training to tone the entire body.  No prior dance training is needed, and moves can be modified for all levels.  The music creates a fun atmosphere, and people always comment how happy they feel after class.

Catherine Rodgers is licensed to teach Zumba and Zumba Gold, and has been an AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor since 2018.  She holds a B.A. in Dance (Ballet) from Point Park University and has danced professionally in Los Angeles as a member and soloist with Katja Biesanz Dance Theatre.  She has taught ballet and modern dance in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and Mattersey, England, and has been teaching Zumba since 2017.

Improve stamina and endurance through competitive basketball.  Pick-up games scheduled every class.  All games are supervised by an instructor.  Class size will be limited to give each participant maximum playing time.    Times are subject to change due to court availability.

Tired of not knowing what to do on the dance floor?  Stop jumping around and learn to dance.  This course is an introduction to the social side of ballroom dance.  Students will learn the basic patterns and proper techniques in a fun and easy going atmosphere while developing self-confidence on the dance floor.  The class will cover the most commonly used dances:  foxtrot, swing, cha-cha, waltz and others.  Let’s dance.  

 

No. 111 FOOT IT and BARRE IT (HS Dance Studio, D-105)                        

Mondays & Wednesdays, January 13th

Have fun and get fit! 

MONDAY’S: (Bring a mat & bottle of water)* Class begins with a variety of fun & inspiring cardio dance routines followed by body-weight resistance training and stretching. 

WEDNESDAY’S: (Bring a mat, bottle of water, 1-5 lb. hand weights, & thera-band (available for purchase or BYO))*.  Increase muscle strength using the barre, thera-bands and hand weights, followed by core work on the floor and a generous stretch (infusing Ballet, Pilates, and Yoga exercises). 

*No sneakers.  Sticky socks/dance shoes/barefoot only.)

These classes are the perfect complement to each other.  Get ready to burn calories, strengthen your core, sculpt those trouble spots, and leave in a more peaceful state.

  

No. 503 SATURDAY MORNING MAT PILATES (HS RM D-105)

This class uses controlled movements in the form of mat exercises to tone and strengthen the body, increase flexibility, and build endurance, without adding muscle bulk.  By incorporating the eight principles of control, breath, flow, precision, centering, stability, range of motion, and opposition, the core muscles that support the spine will be strengthened, increasing the functionality of the body.  The class will end with a generous stretch.  Please bring a mat and water.

Mild to moderate "flow" with dynamic breathing and synchronized movement. Open, relax, reinvigorate, nourish & restore.      

 

ENERGY FLOW (10-weeks)

Thursday 7:15 pm-8:15 pm (Begins 1/16)-No class: 1/30                    

Link breath and movement in a rhythmic dance that frees the mind-- This class physically wrings out and balances all parts of the self. This class includes several sun salutations to help build heat, align and strengthen the body.

 Bring a yoga mat & water. Blocks, blankets, straps or towels optional.
