PTA Resources

Council Officers

President: Lorraine May
- The Council PTA president presides at all meetings of Mt. Lebanon Council PTA and coordinates the work of the Council PTA officers and committees. The president works with the superintendent, MLEA, and the school board to promote the education of our students. Additionally, the president provides support and training for Mt. Lebanon local unit PTA presidents and assists other officers as needed.

- The Council PTA 1st vice president acts as an aide to the president, plans the calendar and programs, and coordinates the installation dinner. The 1st VP works closely with any committee chairperson designated by the president.
2nd Vice President: Marisa Hupe - twovp@mtlcouncilpta.org
- The Council PTA 2nd vice president acts as an aide to the president, plans the calendar and programs, and coordinates the installation dinner. The 2nd VP works closely with any committee chairperson designated by the president.
3rd Vice President/Superintendent: Dr. Melissa Friez, Superintendent of Schools
- The Council PTA 3rd vice president and the District superintendent shall act as advisors and liaisons between the PTA and the school district.
Treasurer: Erin Gentzel - treasurer@mtlcouncilpta.org
- The Council PTA treasurer has custody of the funds of the Council PTA, including the Georgia Pogue Scholarship Fund, maintains a full account of the funds, and provides a statement of such at Council PTA general meetings. The treasurer is authorized to cosign Council PTA checks and makes disbursements as authorized by the president, executive board, or Council PTA in accordance with the budget. The treasurer also provides an annual report of the financial condition of the Council PTA. Additionally, the treasurer serves on the Budget Committee.
- The treasurer also provides support and training for Mt. Lebanon local unit PTA treasurers and assists local unit PTA presidents on financial issues as needed.

- The Council PTA recording secretary shall record and prepare the minutes of all Council PTA general meetings. In addition, the recording secretary should file all records, have a current copy of the bylaws, maintain a membership list, and notify committee chairs of their appointments.
- The recording secretary also serves on the Installation Banquet Committee.
Historian: Ashley Hauck - historian@mtlcouncilpta.org
- The Council PTA historian shall compile a record of the achievements of the Council PTA for the current school year and evaluate the local unit PTA books.
Immediate Past President: Stacie Carlson
- Serves as a member of the Mt. Lebanon City Council of PTAs Executive Board.
- Serves as a member of the Georgia Pogue Scholarship Committee and helps with the installation of new officers as needed.

Committee Chairs

Council PTA has standing committees that represent a broad range of topics and issues affecting students and their families. Council PTA committee chairs also provide support and leadership to the respective committee chairs in Mt. Lebanon local unit PTAs. For details on any committee, click on the committee name below.

Bylaws

Responsible for revision and amendments to Bylaws. Bylaws must be revised every five (5) years. Coordinates with local Bylaws Chairmen as needed. Responsible for updating the Standing Rules with the help of Council Officers.

Sustainability

Shall develop a channel of communication between the unit PTAs and the school district regarding environmental issues and policies. Shall provide support to unit PTAs who are initiating environmental programs.

Technology

Shall serve as the PTA contact for newsletter articles and notices from the school district, community and other outside groups that are of district-wide interest; and disseminate such district-wide newsletter articles to each of the other school district PTA units.
Shall coordinate with the district and the local units' technology initiatives involving the PTA website and any other technology initiative pertinent to the Council or local units.

Parent/School Education

Shall meet as needed with local unit chairs. May sponsor annual or semiannual district-wide programs on issues affecting education or parenting.

Keeping your unit in good standing

Georgia Pogue Scholarship

Georgia Pogue Personal Achievement Award
Co-Sponsored by Council PTA and the Pogue Family

Without interruption, Mt. Lebanon Council PTA has awarded an annual scholarship to a deserving senior since our inception more than 75 years ago.

In 1993 Council PTA voted to annually recognize seven seniors, seven being symbolic of our neighborhood elementary schools. Each recipient receives $500 toward college expenses.

In 1997 Council changed the name of the scholarship in honor of a guidance counselor at Mt. Lebanon High School, Georgia Pogue. Georgia was a beloved and talented guidance counselor who championed all students at Mt. Lebanon. Upon her untimely death, her family bequeathed $25,000 to the PTA Scholarship fund. PTA renamed the fund the Georgia Pogue Personal Achievement Award in her memory.

Nominated by high school administrators, faculty, and/or staff, students must meet the following criteria:

Have significantly improved their academic performance during their high school career, and/or
Are all-around good citizens or solid students, and/or
Are "always there," dependable at doing tasks, but are not necessarily in the limelight.

The Scholarship Committee consists of six members, including the Council PTA president and one Council member-at-large, Council PTA past president, the High School PTSA president (none of whom may have a senior student), a high school guidance counselor and the high school principal or his/her designee (usually a high school teacher). If any of the PTA representatives on the committee has a senior, he/she must designate a substitute for the committee.

This effort is coordinated with our Supervisor of Guidance, who distributes the forms through intra-office mail, thus making the process available to all high school employees who wish to nominate a student.

The seven scholarship recipients are presented with their awards at the High School Awards Assembly and the May Council PTA meeting to recognize their achievements.

Nominations and Voting
Two of the most important procedures that happen in a PTA are nominations and voting (either elections or on agenda items). The PA PTA has assisted Mt. Lebanon City Council PTA in developing guidelines to help with these procedures. Please refer to the documents linked below or contact the Bylaws Chair or President with questions or to request assistance.

Nominating

- All board members should review this document prior to electing the nominating committee. This addresses questions regarding incomplete slates and filling vacancies, in addition to what duties the nominating committee are charged with.

- These guidelines are to be used for all nominating committees to guide them in their work. They can be printed and placed in your nominating committee binder.

Electing Officers or Conducting a Ballot Vote

- This document will help you conduct a voice or ballot vote. It is mostly tailored to elections of nominating committee or officers but can also be used as a guideline if you have an important motion that you vote on by ballot.
