Volunteer Clearances
We love having families and neighbors in our schools. Keeping students safe means a few clearances first. Here's everything you need, in plain terms.
Program Volunteer
Works under a teacher or administrator with direct contact with students (think regular classroom or field-trip help).
Casual Volunteer
Helps occasionally and always alongside a teacher or administrator (a one-time event, a class party).
Steps To Obtain Your Clearances
Program volunteers need all three documents listed below.
Lived in PA for the past 10 years? Program volunteers may sign a 10-Year PA Resident Affidavit each year instead of the FBI clearance. State clearances renew every 5 years.
Good To Know
- Renew every five years: Clearances older than five years need to be redone.
- Casual volunteers: Sign the Casual Volunteer Affirmation once a year. No full clearances needed.
- 10+ hours a week? Volunteers with frequent direct contact also need a recent TB test or physician's note.
- Cost a barrier? Don't let it stop you. Contact Pat Connolly, Director of Business Operations (412-344-2098 · pconnolly@mtlsd.net). Requests are confidential.
- Experiencing technical difficulties with the Raptor Program Volunteer Application? Contact Chris Stengel, Director of Technology (412-344-2089 · volunteer@mtlsd.net).
