At Mt. Lebanon School District, we are committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students. Please use the form below to report bullying concerns so they can be reviewed promptly and appropriately in accordance with the District’s Anti-Bullying Policy.
Our Approach to School Safety
Safety at Mt. Lebanon School District isn't a single policy or a single person's job. It's a shared commitment built on four pillars, working together every day.
Physical Safety
Secured buildings, visitor check-in, security cameras, regular drills, and close coordination with the Mt. Lebanon Police Department keep our buildings safe every school day.
Emergency Preparedness
Every school has a detailed emergency operations plan. Our staff trains regularly and our plans are reviewed annually with local emergency services.
Mental Health & Wellness
A safe school is one where students feel supported. Our counselors, SAP team, and mental health resources ensure no student faces a difficult moment alone.
Community Awareness
Safety is a shared responsibility. Safe2Say gives every community member, from students, families, and neighbors, a way to report concerns anonymously, at any time.
Walking To School & Crossing Guard Areas
Mt. Lebanon is proud to be a walkable community. Each day, many students walk to and from school using neighborhood sidewalks and designated crossings. Crossing guards play an important role in helping students cross safely at key intersections along these routes. The Mt. Lebanon Police Department Traffic Services unit oversees the crossing guard program. For information on crossing guard areas, visit the Mt. Lebanon Police Department website.
Weather Delays/Closings
When emergencies, such as weather conditions or power failures, require the delay or closing of school, notice is given as early as possible. Weather closing and delay notices are usually made by 6:00 a.m.
Typically, when school is canceled, after-school and evening activities are also canceled.
Parent and Guardian Notifications
In the event of a school delay or closing, parents will receive communication from the District's Emergency Phone Alert System to the primary phone number listed with the school. Notices will also be posted on our homepage and various media outlets. The District will not post to social media.
This system depends on accurate contact information from school records. If your information has changed, please update your phone numbers in the PowerSchool Dashboard or by contacting the building secretary.

Two-hour Delay Schedule
If there is a two-hour delay, students in grades 1–12 will report to school by the following times:
- High School: 10:00 a.m.
- Middle School: 10:00 a.m.
- Elementary School: 10:30 a.m.
Kindergarten Two-Hour Delay Schedule
On days when a two-hour delay is called, morning kindergarten will be in session from 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and afternoon kindergarten will be in session from 1:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m.
What criteria do we use to delay, cancel, or use a Flexible Instructional Day?
- Road and sidewalk conditions: During winter weather, the superintendent consults local weather reports, the National Weather Service, and police reports to stay informed, along with municipality road crews and the District facilities department, to determine whether to delay, cancel, or use a Flexible Instructional Day.
- Temperature: When the National Weather Service calls for a Cold Weather Advisory, the District consults the forecast to determine projected temperatures and wind chill for Mt. Lebanon. If the actual temperature, real feel, or wind chill is projected to be -10°F or colder, the District will operate on a two-hour delay, cancellation, or Flexible Instructional Day. Forecasts can change, but this policy helps provide clarity and allows for planning.
In some weather emergencies, particularly extreme cold, the District may use a Flexible Instructional Day instead of canceling school outright, so instruction can continue virtually. Learn more on our Flexible Instructional Days page.
