Student Assistance Program

Sometimes life gets in the way of school: stress, anxiety, grief, friendships, family changes, or substance use can all make it harder for a student to thrive. The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is here to help. It's a free, confidential, team-based program that connects students and families with the right support, both in school and in the community, so every student can get back to feeling like themselves.

How It Works

A trained school team works alongside a dedicated SAP liaison from the Allegheny Children's Initiative (ACI), a nonprofit that partners with families, schools, and community organizations across Allegheny County. Together, they:

• Listen and learn what a student may be experiencing.
• Complete a confidential screening to better understand their needs.
• Recommend helpful next steps and supports.
• Follow up and stay connected until the student is linked with the right resources.

Families are at the heart of this process. We keep parents and guardians informed and involved every step of the way, because students do best when the people who love them are part of the plan. Participation is always voluntary, and your choices about providers and services are yours to make.

Confidentiality is protected for everyone involved, in keeping with all state and federal laws safeguarding student and family privacy. SAP is a place to ask for help with confidence.
