The Mt. Lebanon School District has an Instructional Support Teacher (IST) in each elementary building. Our ISTs are highly qualified teachers who aim to improve the students’ math achievement through explicit skill-based instruction using researched based interventions that are selected to meet the specific needs of the students. Our ISTs also serve as instructional leaders for the teachers by providing additional support and professional development opportunities for various instructional practices related to math.

The Strive program works to move students to academic independence through learning skill instruction, tutorial assistance and academic support beyond the regular school program. In addition, the Strive program establishes a needed communication link between the family and school, and attempts to change student attitudes through improved academic performance.

The Math Lab is a resource for all the math courses at Mt. Lebanon High School. The lab is in room B616 and is facilitated by a full-time Mathematics Clinician, who is certified in secondary Mathematics.  The Math Lab is a place where students can stop in to receive one-on-one assistance with their math courses. The Mathematics Clinician offers support to students and teachers by providing help with homework questions, and reviewing material prior to course exams, SAT exam, ACT exam and Keystone exam.

The Study Center is a dedicated learning resource room where students of any grade level requiring a more academically nurturing environment can enroll in lieu of a traditional study hall period. In this classroom a student can:

• Get help with homework

• Use computers or a printer

• Makeup tests or other missed assignments

• Receive assistance with study habits and organizational skills

• Work in groups on projects

The Writing Lab is a resource for all stages of the writing process. The lab (B521) houses a number of desk top computers in addition to ample space for students to work on their own devices. The lab is staffed with a full-time Writing Clinician, who is certified in secondary English and holds a certificate in Teaching Writing. In addition to offering a place for students to brainstorm, draft, revise, and edit their written work, the Writing Clinician offers support for students and teachers alike for writing conferences on student writing, including work for English class as well as across the curriculum; college, scholarship, summer program, and apprenticeship application essays; independent writing; and standardized testing essay preparation, including the SAT and ACT. Writing coaches, trained and friendly peers, are also available for consultation.

Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. (PCSI) was established in 1983 as the designated Community Action Agency (CAA) for the city of Pittsburgh and  has served as the anti-poverty agency for the city for over 30 years.  PCSI serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.   

Their mission is accomplished through advocacy, strategic collaboration, partnerships, case management directed services, and innovative solutions that affect systemic change.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) oversees 500 public school districts, more than 170 public charter schools, public cyber charter schools, Career and Technology Centers/Vocational Technical schools, public Intermediate Units, the education of youth in State Juvenile Correctional Institutions, Head Starts and publicly funded preschools, and community colleges.

PDE also oversees policies related to public, academic, and school libraries, and the State Library of Pennsylvania.

This program serves individuals between the ages of 18-24 that are at imminent risk of becoming homeless. We provide individualized housing crisis intervention and stabilization services, such as:

• Conflict mediation with a landlord or person with whom a youth is living
• Advocacy in eviction proceedings
• Emergency food and transportation assistance
• Housing-focused case management
• Referrals to other resources as needed
