MTLHS Orchestra Showcase

Founded in 1927, the Mt. Lebanon High School Orchestra is the product of a supportive community and a strong fine arts program in grades 1-12. Approximately 200 students are divided between the Mt. Lebanon High School String Orchestra and the Mt. Lebanon High School Symphony Orchestra. In addition, students participate in the Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber String Orchestra, and numerous quartets and other small ensembles. Mt. Lebanon’s Chamber String Orchestra was recognized as having the Best String Section and presented individual awards for best high and low string soloists in a March 2012 national performance/competition at New York City’s Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Other recent orchestra highlights include: masterclasses for the chamber orchestra with Maestro Gianandrea Noseda in 2013 and 2011 and Maestro Manfred Honeck in 2015, 2014 and 2012; performances at Verizon Hall, the home of the Philadelphia Orchestra, in March of 2011; concerts at New York City’s Carnegie Hall in 2015, 2004 and 1998; appearances at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis for the prestigious 2013, 2009 and 2006 Orchestra America National Festival; concerts at the 2010, 2004, 2002 and the 1996 Pennsylvania Music Educators Conventions; relationships with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra members who work with and perform for Mt. Lebanon Orchestra students; performances and master classes with notable guest artists; and the Mt. Lebanon String Festival with renowned violinist Sherry Kloss. Through an annual scholarship, over $10,000 has been awarded to graduating seniors who have participated in the Mt. Lebanon String Festival. The Mt.
