Curriculum night will be held January 24th. This is an evening set aside for parents to learn more about courses offered at the high school. It is designed to help students better choose classes for the following year.

Open to students grades 9-12, the PennDOT Innovations Challenge asks students to look at cost-effective technologies and innovative methods, aside from laws and educational campaigns, that can be developed in the next five to 10 years to get drivers to slow down in work zones. The deadline for PennDOT's Innovations Challenge has been extended through January 25, 2019.

Three students will appear on the Saturday Light Brigade on January 12 from 10:35 to 11:00. Amanda Wolf (senior) and Abigail Duclos (senior) will be reading poetry or short fiction. Nick DeEulio (senior) will be singing and playing an original song. The episode will air on 88.3, stream at the Saturday Light Brigade website, and later that week be archived and available for listening indefinitely. Additional students Jess Ellis, Perrin Nightengale (both seniors), and maybe one other will appear on February 2nd.

This is the second challenge hosted by This Is Statistics (the first was a prediction project for the 2016 presidential election) and one of our teams of AP Statistics students was recognized with an Honorable Mention for Best Use of External Data. Rebecca Schwartz and Avery Tandon (mentored by Mrs. Heather Pessy) partnered to research, analyze, and recommend solutions to the national opioid epidemic. Teams had to produce a PowerPoint presentation and a supporting document to explain their work.

Keystone Exams will be held in December. The Biology Keystone will be held on December 4th & 5th from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM. The Algebra I Keystone Exam will take place December 6th & 7th from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM. The Literature Exam will take place December 11th & 12th at 8:00 AM. There is a 10 AM start time on December 4, 5, 6, and 7 for non-test takers. All students start at the normal 8:00 AM time on December 11th and 12th.

Students taking SATs at Mt. Lebanon on Saturday, December 1, 2018, should be dropped off at the auditorium entrance (A-2) along Cochran Rd. Doors open at 7am, and testing starts promptly at 8am. Students parking on-site should use the staff parking lot on the south side of the building, but all test-takers should enter only through the auditorium entrance (A-2) along Cochran Rd. Signs inside the building will show room assignments, and guides will direct test-takers to those testing rooms. Bring all required materials (see College Board rules), or you will be turned away without refund. Please note that school ID from last school year is still valid for this SAT admission. Please contact the Test Center Supervisor, Rolf Briegel, at rbriegel@mtlsd.net with any questions or concerns.

PASCH stands for the "Schools: Partners for the Future" initiative. This year, 2018, marks the tenth anniversary of PASCH. Mt. Lebanon High School celebrates ten years as one of only eleven original, specially-designated PASCH Fit-Schools in the US. These eleven schools share a long tradition of German instruction as well as emphasis on STEM subjects and the arts, and over 44 all-expenses paid trips have been awarded to our students in the last decade.
